Jamie Oliver’s ‘Ethical’ Fish Sticks.

For those who hate the planet, there are regular fish sticks. For those who love mother earth but still want to deep fry her children and dunk them in tarter sauce, there are celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s “ethical” fish sticks.
The common fish stick is usually made from cod fish which are currently threatened from overfishing but Jamie’s “ethical” fish sticks contain pollack meat. Oliver, and other pseudo-environmentalists, claim that it is morally superior or even “ethical” to eat fish like pollack that aren’t as threatened YET.
Real environmentalists, scientists, and even Greenpeace are all warning that after cod, pollack are the next fish species to experience a population collapse. The white pollack fish is one of the most common species used for processed fish products (think Fish-Fil-A) and imitation crab. It hardly seems “ethical” of Jamie to accelerate their demise.
Extinction concerns aside, eating animals isn’t ethical, period. Fish feel pain and have the same desire to survive, thrive, and procreate that all animals do. Pollack don’t want to be your deep fried after school snack anymore than cod do.
Abundant or not, killing someone who doesn’t want to be killed is never ethical.
