Anti-Whalers Violently Attacked.
Anti-whaling heroes from the Sea Shepard Conservation Society were violently assaulted during a protest in the waters off Tasmania. The Japanese whalers blasted conservationists with water cannons, chunks of metal, and golf balls. They also used “military grade” noise weapon that can cause deafness and vomiting. After the violent attack the Japanese still claim that the conservationists are “terrorists.”
The Japanese plan to harvest up to 935 minke whales and 50 fin whales this season. Under International Whaling Commission rules, the mammals may be killed for research but not for commercial purposes. Conservationists say the Japanese research expeditions are simply a cover for commercial whaling, which was banned in 1986.
It’s clear that the Japanese cannot support this level of killing with ANY scientific data. No research in history has required that this many whales be slaughtered on a regular basis.
Tell President Obama to influence Japan to end the killing.
